About the Author:
Professor Kunihide Koda is a professor at the University of Tsukuba’s Graduate School of Comprehensive Human Sciences and serves as director of the university’s kendo club. He holds 8th dan kyoshi.
Born in 1957 in Nagasaki Prefecture, he began excelling early: as a third-year student at Kojima Junior High, he won the Kyushu Junior High School Championships. In his final year at Nagasaki Higashi High School, he took the men’s individual title at the 1975 Inter-High School Championships in Tokyo.
At Tsukuba University, he competed in the East-West Student Championships for four consecutive years and captured the individual title at the 1985 World Kendo Championships.
Today, as professor and club director, he has guided the Tsukuba men’s kendo team to seven All-Japan Student Championships victories and the women’s team to five national titles.
He is the author of numerous books on kendo and remains deeply committed to promoting the art.
