About the Instructor:

Yusuke Kanamaru is a 5th Dan in Judo. Born September 14, 1979 in Ishikawa Prefecture, 170 cm tall. Started judo at the age of 5 at Tsurugi Sakata Dojo, attended Ishikawa Prefectural Tsubata High School, and studied coaching while training as an athlete at Tsukuba University and the University of Tsukuba Graduate School. As a 73kg athlete, he won the Kodokan Cup, Kano Cup, All Japan Weight Class Championships, German International, French International, and other competitions, and was runner-up in the World Championships. After competing in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, at the age of 29, he began coaching athletes at Ryotokuji Gakuen, Tsukuba University, and the All Japan Team. He also teaches judo to general students at Ryotokuji University, and is well-received for his easy-to-understand commentary on terrestrial television broadcasts of the London Olympics, etc. Graduated from the JOC National Coach Academy in 2012.
