7th Dan, Shihan, Massimo di Villadorata was introduced to Aikido in Italy, his native country. There he had the privilege of assisting Senseis Hiroshi Tada and Motokage Kawamukai, who were sent to Italy by Master Ueshiba himself.

In 1967 he founded the Montreal Aïkikai, the first aïkido dojo in Canada, from which many leading aïkidokas originated.

From 1975 to 1982 he taught Aikido at the National Theatre School of Canada and in 1976 was instrumental in the establishment of Aikido in Mexico.

Holder of a Master’s Degree in Education, Massimo di Villadorata studied Chinese Traditional Medicine in China and was instrumental in having acupuncture legalized and recognized as a medical profession in Quebec. He has given many lectures and seminars to acupuncture students and practitioners and still operates his clinic in Montreal.

Currently Chief Instructor at Montreal Aikikai in his teaching Massimo di Villadorata aims to promote the principles of sincerity and loyalty inherent to the spirit of Martial Arts, and to make oriental philosophy relevant to western society.
