The term larga mano literally means “long hand” and implies the ability to extend one’s reach. Reaching your opponent without jeopardizing safety is foremost because one can disable his enemy with less chance of getting hurt or killed. To employ this style, a practitioner must know how to systematically use a longer weapon. A person cannot just swing his longer weapon like a flail; it is an art and therefore must abide with the larga mano science. Counterstriking is included, with emphasis on the tip of your weapon to get the maximum amount of power in short and powerful striking ranges. The practice of stretching far is the daily exercise of a larga mano practitioner. Grand Master Leo M. Giron applied these larga mano concepts successfully during World War II and is known worldwide as the father of larga mano in the United States.

As a direct result of superior skill and devotion to the principles, philosophy, and purpose of Bahala Na Martial Arts, combined with leadership and his master level instructorship, Master Tony Somera was promoted to the rank and responsibility of Grand Master by the late Grand Master and founder of Bahala Na Martial Arts Leo M. Giron. Grand Master Somera is the leading authority and promotes the art of Giron Arnis Escrima, along with its rich Filipino history and culture. Tony Somera is the only person ever to be promoted to the rank of Master and then Grand Master by the late Grand Master Emeritus Leo M. Giron.

great series of dvds

great series of dvds, this dvd focuses on the basics of largo mano or long hand striking and gives a good insight into the elastiko footwork and stepping methods which distiguish this method from other arnis/eskrima methods ie. estilo abaniko, estilo corto etc.GM Tony Somera explains and demonstrates the material with ease and with enough depth to give an eskrimador an insight into the Bahala Na Giron Method of Eskrima/Arnis.
