About the instructor:
Born on October 10, 1887 in Iwadeyama-cho, Tamatsukuri-gun, Miyagi Prefecture. In June 1906, he joined the Yokosuka Kaihindan. He was appointed in 1944. In 1914, he served in the Japanese-German War and received the 7th Class Blue Paulownia Badge. He received full-scale instruction in kendo and iaido from Kichitaro Iijima at the Yokosuka Kaihindan. In July 1917, he boarded the naval cadet training ship Yakumo and traveled around the North American coast, Hawaii, and the South Sea Islands. In November 1922, he was transferred to the Naval Reserve, and in 1922 he succeeded Iijima-sensei and became a kendo master of the Yokosuka naval base. In April 1923, he entered Yushinkan under Mr. Hirodo Nakayama. In 1937 and 1938, he became a teacher of Iaijutsu and Kendo. In May 1957, he was 8th Dan in Iaido. May 1959 Iaido Hanshi. Kendo Hanshi in May 1964. May 1966 9th dan Iaido. In November 1971, a statue was erected in Shiroyama, Iwadeyama-cho, Miyagi Prefecture, where he was born, with contributions from local volunteers and students
