About the Author

Jean Herbert (1897–1980) was a French orientalist, Indologist, interpreter, and translator.
He specialized in Indian spirituality (Hinduism), Japanese Shinto, and Asian religions.
Pioneered conference interpreting; served as chief interpreter for the United Nations' early years. Authored numerous books on Eastern spirituality, including works on the Bhagavad Gita, Hindu thought, Shinto, and Japanese gods.
