Shinya Aoki
- Born May 9, 1983, in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. Started judo in elementary school and quickly excelled. Selected as a junior national training athlete in Japan in 2002. Proficient in ground techniques, he began Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu while attending Waseda University. Affiliated with Paraestra Tokyo, he ventured into MMA. Won the DEEP Future King Tournament in 2003 and debuted as a professional in the DEEP Welterweight Tournament in 2004. Became the 8th DEEP World Middleweight Champion in 2006 within a year of his debut. Joined PRIDE in August of the same year, defeating top international fighters and becoming one of Japan's top MMA representatives. Participated in DREAM's inaugural event in March 2008, finishing as the runner-up in the Lightweight GP. Became the 2nd DREAM Lightweight Champion in October 2009 by defeating Joachim Hansen. Successfully defended his title for the first time in July 2010 against Tatsuya Kawajiri. Secured quick victories over Lyle Beerbohm at Strikeforce in April 2011 and Rob McCullough at DREAM in September 2011. Started training at EVOLVE in Singapore in 2011 to compete against global opponents, solidifying his position as one of Japan's premier MMA fighters.
