The kusari-fundo is a traditional Japanese weapon from feudal Japan, featuring a length of chain (kusari) with weights (fundo) attached to each end. The weapon's design varied widely, with no standard size or shape for the chain or weights. It is also commonly known as manrikigusari, meaning "ten-thousand-power chain," or simply manriki.

Our Kusari Fundo is constructed of heavy duty plated steel. The ball is approximately 1" in diameter and 1 1/2" in height. Overall weight is 11 oz. with an overall length of 26".

Kusari fundo

Years ago I had purchased a black version of the kusari fundo and it is great.
Recently I have purchased a few of the chrome version of the same type and though the chain needed to be worked back and forth between the weights to enable the 1st link to move freely, I believe this is a very good tool.
The only other thing that I can mention is that I think the chrome version is a bit slick ,not as much texture as the blackened ones.
It could be possible to slip out of your hand .
I wanted this chrome one though for a bit of video training I'm attempting as I follow Let's ask Shogu, let's ask Seki Sensei, which incorporates a tool similar to this one
In their ryuha. Ball and chain, tomasugari.
I find this tool a lot more useful than say ,a katana, which I don't have along with me out of my place ,but the ball and chain is pretty portable, and also unassuming.
As always training to avoid an encounter is best way to avoid trouble and get back home safely.
I highly recommend this tool for those who are interested in some of the various ryuha that use it in their curriculum.
