Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu, founded by Iizasa Choisai Ienao during the mid-Muromachi period (1336–1573) in the Katori region of Shimosa Province (present-day Katori City, Chiba Prefecture), is one of Japan's oldest surviving martial traditions. Recognized as the source from which many Japanese martial arts have evolved, the school preserves a comprehensive curriculum encompassing martial techniques, battlefield strategy, philosophy, and character development.

Riichi Kitano Menkyo/Shihandai is descended from a samurai family. His primary teachers and mentors are Otake Risuke Shihan and Otake Nobutoshi Shihan of the Shinbukan Dojo in Japan.
