The final volume of a new technical book that sharply demonstrates and explains the essence of karate-do kata! A detailed explanation of the history and significance of kata, an overview of the seven types of kata, movement explanations, key points, and decomposition of kumite.

[Basics that follow the ground, kata that make sense, and elegant kumite]

At Kyokushin-kan, we organize traditional technical content and training systems based on the philosophy of "basics that follow the ground, kata that make sense, and elegant kumite" left by Sosai Mas Oyama, and we would like to demonstrate the value of their existence by establishing modern competition methods as the two wheels of a car.

The first step in understanding traditional techniques is "kata." Kyokushin karate kata is largely created by Sosai Mas Oyama, but each technique is incorporated from studying traditional techniques, so there is no particular problem with studying traditional techniques. By digging deep into the meaning of each movement and practicing it, it becomes easier to learn traditional kata, and you can also understand the historical background of the techniques. As there are phrases such as "kata is the category of karate-do" and "kata is history," kata itself may be the definition of karate.

If you practice kata and kumite with all your might, you will naturally come to understand the common content, and ultimately, the theoretical aspects of how to use your body and techniques will become one. This is an answer that can only be reached by doing, rather than discussing it thoroughly before doing it. (Excerpt from the prologue "Tradition and Development")
