Kuniyoshi Hironaka
- Born June 17, 1976, in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. Began judo at age 10, achieved top 8 in All Japan Judo Championships, and transitioned to MMA. In July 2001, he was runner-up in the inaugural East Japan Amateur Shooto Middleweight and debuted as a professional against Takayuki Okanouchi on October 23. The following year, he won the Shooto Middleweight Rookie of the Year and has since been a mainstay in Shooto. In April 2006, he defeated Renato Verissimo at Rumble on the Rock 9 and achieved a historic victory in grappling against Jean-Jacques Machado, the first by a Japanese fighter. From October, he competed in the UFC in the United States, earning his first victory against Forrest Petz on April 5, 2007, after a decision loss in his debut. In July 2008, he achieved a TKO victory over Motoki Miyazawa at DREAM.5. In May 2009, he submitted Naoyuki Kotani at ZST.20. On September 21 of the same year, he knocked out Yoshihiro Koyama and became the Cage Force Lightweight Champion. He returned to Shooto in April 2011 and defeated Takanori Nakagura, followed by a victory over Kwang-Hee Park on July 18, claiming the Shooto World Welterweight Championship. In December 2012, he defeated Caros Fodor at VTJ 1st. In September 2013, he defeated Yoshihiro Koyama by submission, successfully defending his title for the second time. In November 2013, he achieved a KO victory over Bowie Tupou at Shoot Boxing, proving his striking prowess at the world-class level. On October 4, 2014, at VTJ 6th, he submitted Dong-Hyun Kim. Throughout his career, he has faced tough opponents worldwide and diligently trained under Yuji Igarashi for physical transformation and learned punch techniques from Takeshi Nogi. He also focuses on mentoring younger generations at his gym, MASTER JAPAN, where he serves as the head.
