Karate Pursuing Rational Techniques Inspired by Jujutsu and Kenjutsu
Karate-do Wado-ryu, one of the four major karate styles, uniquely integrates elements of jujutsu and kenjutsu into its techniques, evolving from Okinawan "karate" into its distinct form.
In this DVD, the 24 hidden Kumite techniques ("Ura no Kumite") are meticulously explained by Hironori Otsuka, the head of the Wado-ryu school. Unlike competitive training, this practice method, passed down to only a select few, emphasizes the development of "precision" and "impact" in techniques through:
- Compressing and refining the body
- Stretching the lower back like a rubber band
These techniques are taught with a focus on anatomy and clear instructional points, enhancing skills such as:
- Receiving techniques that disrupt the opponent's balance
- Punching techniques that transmit power even at close range
This method of training, which seeks the rationality and essence of techniques, is valuable for developing the physicality and movements required in martial arts, transcending organizational boundaries.
