Shukumine Seiken (1925-2001), born in Okinawa Prefecture, was a martial artist who transcended the tradition of karate to establish a martial art called Taido. He began his dedication to karate in his youth and later explored his unique principles of movement, founding the Genkiryu Karate-Do after World War II. In 1965, he further consolidated his martial principles into Taido.
Taido, as envisioned by Shukumine, seeks to unify human movement, physiology, and psychology into a cohesive system of martial arts. The DVD content meticulously details fundamental movements, various techniques, and the "Gokui" or "Five Laws of Dynamic Motion" that underpin the art. These laws are applied across five categories of techniques: rotational, movement-based, transformational, twisting, and turning techniques.
This instructional material not only benefits practitioners of karate but also serves as valuable training for martial artists across diverse disciplines. Shukumine's legacy lies in his innovation within the realm of karate, preserving tradition while pioneering new methodologies that emphasize holistic human dynamics in martial arts practice.
