About the Author:

Born in Iwate Prefecture in 1922.

He graduated from Tokyo Higher Normal School (now the University of Education) in 1944. He participated in the Imperial Tournament, the East-West Student Tournament, the All-Japan East-West Tournament, and the All-Kanto vs. All-Kyushu Tournament, and in 1948 he won the All-Japan Ten District Championship as a representative of Tokyo.

He traveled to the UK from 1953 to 1955 to teach judo. In 1956, he toured Southeast Asian countries as a goodwill envoy for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

From February to May, he again led a goodwill mission for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, traveling to Europe and Southeast Asia to teach. He is currently a professor at Tokyo Gakugei University, a director of the International Judo Federation, a director of the Asian Judo Federation, a director of the All Japan Judo Federation, an 8th dan at the Kodokan, and an instructor at the Kodokan.
