About the Author:
Naoyuki Taira (Born 1963 in Miyagi Prefecture) was drawn to professional wrestling, starting Karate in his third year of junior high. After entering the Daidojuku Karate school in high school, he later moved to Tokyo to train under Shooto founder Satoru Sayama. Taira became a professional in Shoot Boxing (SB), later entering the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in San Francisco under Carly Gracie. After retiring in 2002, he studied Sotai-ho (body manipulation) and Taiki-ken, and has also recently begun studying the Yagyu Shingan Ryu sword style. He currently leads the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu organization "Striple" while also running a Sotai research institute and serving as a consultant in various martial arts medical advisory roles. Taira has authored several books and videos and is famous for being a model in the popular martial arts manga Grappler Baki.
