In Pursuit of Dreams is a personal memoir and martial arts history by Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu practitioner Kenkichi Ohgami, tracing his life in the art and the legacy of his teacher, Takuma Hisa.

In the early twentieth century, the legendary Sokaku Takeda began publicly teaching Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu, an art whose techniques had previously been closely guarded. Among Takeda’s most important students was Takuma Hisa, the only student to receive Menkyo Kaiden, or “complete transmission,” directly from Takeda.

As a student of Hisa, Ohgami became part of this important lineage and later worked to introduce and spread Daito Ryu beyond Japan. Combining personal recollections with martial arts history, the book offers insight into Ohgami’s training, his relationship with Hisa, and the preservation and transmission of Daito Ryu’s extensive technical tradition.

An especially valuable Japanese-language work for practitioners, historians, and collectors interested in Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu, Takuma Hisa, Sokaku Takeda, and the historical roots of modern Aikido.
