About Isamu Uehara
Born in 1939, Isamu Uehara is the Grand Master of the Uechi-ryu Karate-do Promotion Association Shubukan. He is the fourth son of Sannosuke Uehara, a disciple of Uechi Kanbun and the founder of the Promotion Association. He began studying Uechi-ryu Karate-do under his father, Sannosuke, at the age of 11. At 24, he moved from Okinawa to Tokyo and established a dojo in Benten-cho, Shinjuku Ward, in 1965, the year following the Tokyo Olympics. Since then, he has been dedicated to spreading and developing Uechi-ryu in Tokyo, inheriting the techniques and spirit of Uechi Kanbun and his father, Sannosuke.
