- Miura Miyuki Born on October 3, 1949, in Kisarazu City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Miyuki started practicing Shotokan karate during junior high school and joined the Kyokushin karate club at Josai University, founded by Yoshiji Inoue. Her rigorous training regimen gained recognition during university competitions, becoming a formidable presence. In 1969, as a sophomore, she competed in the 1st All Japan Kyokushin Championship. Post-graduation from Josai University in 1972, Miyuki continued intensive training at the Kyokushin headquarters dojo under instructors like Mas Oyama and Yasuhiko Oyama. In the same year, she won her first championship at the 4th All Japan Championship. In 1973, she was appointed as the Chicago Branch Chief by Soke Mas Oyama, and successfully completed a hundred-man kumite as a farewell demonstration. In 1984, Miyuki left Kyokushin along with Masahiko Oyama and Yasuhiko Oyama, participating in the founding of the International Oyama Karate Federation. In 2001, she established the International Karate-Do Miura Dojo after leaving the Oyama Karate, and has been dedicated to promoting karate based in Chicago. In 2007, she founded the International Budo Karate Federation in Japan, aiming to pursue karate that emphasizes fundamentals and can be continued throughout life, fostering a loose coalition of like-minded karate practitioners.
