About the Author:

Toshiaki Maeda is a well-known Japanese karate teacher and former competitor, holding 8th dan rank. He excelled in Wado-ryu style, winning the World Karate Championship kumite -65kg title in 1980, placing third in 1982, and earning runner-up at the 1981 World Games. Known as a top in-fighter, he has served as coach for Japan's national karate team, authored instructional books and DVDs on techniques and sparring, and recently received the Budo Distinguished Service Award from the Japan Budo Council.
