About the Instructor: Morimasa Okada - Third-generation Director of Shodokan. Kendo Kyoshi 8-dan. Born 1967 in Tokyo. Representative Director of the Traditional Culture Preservation & Succession Academy “Shodo Gakuin,” Director of Shodokan, Part-time Lecturer at Obirin University, Director of Tokyo Kendo Federation, President & Master of Suginami Ward Kendo Federation, Councilor & Master of Seisa International High School Berkley Campus Kendo Club, etc. From early childhood received instruction in kendo (including iaido and koryu kenjutsu) from grandfather Morihiro and father Matahiko. Entered Nippon Sport Science University; at age 22 (upon graduation) became third-generation Shodokan Director (Shodokan celebrated its 90th anniversary this year). Also served as assistant in the university’s Budo Research Laboratory. Later served as part-time lecturer, sports professional, and coach of both men’s and women’s kendo teams at NSSU. Awarded 8-dan in 2015. In 2020 established the first full-scale online kendo salon in the kendo world, “Kendo Innovation Laboratory,” later evolving it into “Kendo Specialized Online Keisho Academy,” where he serves as Dean. Actively pursuing exploration and promotion of kendo worldwide through innovative bidirectional video-based initiatives.
