This DVD introduces the principles of "abandoning self and following others" and "achieving action through non-resistance" in Chen-style Tai Chi. Rather than resisting force, this approach emphasizes moving in harmony with an opponent’s imbalance. Master Hideyuki Ikeda, a well-respected instructor of Chen-style Tai Chi, shares his insights on practicing Tai Chi beyond form, offering techniques and applications that have long resonated with students. At age 73, after overcoming a major illness (Stage 4 malignant tumor in full remission with no side effects), Ikeda continues to teach and demonstrate the core elements of Tai Chi’s techniques and philosophy. Drawing on the classic Tai Chi Canon, this DVD unpacks Ikeda's refined methods in practical and accessible detail.

Content Overview:

  1. Body Structuring and Dynamics: Establishing the body axis to improve movement efficiency and coordination.
  2. Non-Resistance Strategy: Techniques for evading force in various combat situations.
  3. Three Principles of Application: Timing, direction, and power in Tai Chi techniques.
  4. Unified Body Mechanics: Creating fluidity in stance and movement.
  5. Three Types of Energy Transformation (Hua Jin): Different approaches to neutralizing and redirecting force.

Supervision by: Hideyuki Ikeda, Chen-style Tai Chi Instructor, founder of Shubukan Martial Arts. Born in 1951, Ikeda’s background includes Goju-Ryu and Uechi-Ryu Karate as well as Ryukyu Kobudo, ultimately finding his path in Chen-style Tai Chi. He teaches at Yokota Air Base and Gold’s Gym and has produced several instructional DVDs, including Fighting Tai Chi and Applied Tai Chi.
