Moriteru Ueshiba was born on April 2, 1951, in Tokyo. He is the current head of Aikido (inheriting the lineage in 1999). His father was Kisshomaru Ueshiba, the second head of Aikido, and his grandfather was Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido. After graduating from Meiji Gakuin University with a degree in economics, he joined the Aikikai Foundation. He has served as Managing Director of the Aikikai Foundation and Director of the Aikido Headquarters Dojo.
Currently, he holds important positions such as Chairman of the Aikikai Foundation, President of the International Aikido Federation, Director of the Nippon Budokan Foundation, and Councilor of the International Budo University. In 2013, he received the Medal with Blue Ribbon. He has also been awarded the Anchieta Medal from Brazil, the Russian Presidential Friendship Order, and the Gold Medal from the University of Valencia, Spain.
