Aikido SA: Evolving Aikido Through Practical Training and Matches

Aikido, traditionally devoid of competitive matches, takes a transformative step forward with Aikido SA. Founded to enhance Aikido's martial efficacy, Aikido SA integrates traditional teachings from master Gozo Shioda with innovative match-based practices under the guidance of Shihan Sakurai Fumio.

Contents:

  • Kata Training: Exploring one-handed and two-handed positions, elbow holds, and strategic throws like kotegaeshi.

  • Striking Practice: Developing precision with upper and lower arm entanglements, and refining techniques like kotegaeshi.

  • Combination Techniques: Sequential drills linking elbow holds to different positions, entanglements, and throws.

  • Live Matches: Detailed rules explanation and demonstration matches showcasing practical Aikido in action.

About the Instructor:

Fumio Sakurai (Aikido SA Representative Master) Born in 1954, Sakurai entered Aikido Yoshinkan and apprenticed under the late Gozo Shioda, renowned as a master. Alongside teaching at the Yoshinkan Headquarters Dojo, he instructs at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department (riot police, special forces, VIP guards, etc.). He holds the sixth-degree Headquarters Master rank. After retiring from Yoshinkan, he founded Aikido SA in 1991 to systematize practical Aikido, drawing from his interactions with diverse martial artists and fighters, including K-1 Director Ishii Kazuyoshi and Shooto founder Sayama Satoru. He assumed the role of representative instructor and actively promotes and advances Aikido through seminars, writing, and television appearances.
