Introduction to Self-Defense is a vintage Japanese martial arts manual by Kenji Tomiki (富木謙治), the influential judo and aikido teacher who developed the competitive approach to aikido commonly associated with Tomiki/Shodokan Aikido. The book was published by Seitosha as part of its Leisure Series in 1972.

Written as a practical guide to personal protection, the book presents aikido- and judo-based self-defense methods for responding to grabs, strikes and other physical attacks. Techniques are demonstrated photographically and emphasize controlling an attacker through movement, balance breaking, atemi, joint manipulation and throwing rather than relying primarily on physical strength.

Tomiki's approach is particularly interesting because of his effort to organize traditional martial techniques according to rational training principles. The book therefore serves both as a practical self-defense manual and as a historical example of how judo and aikido principles were adapted for modern self-protection.
