In the early twentieth century, the legendary Sokaku Takeda began publicly teaching Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu, an art whose techniques had previously been closely guarded. Among Takeda’s most important students was Takuma Hisa, the only student to receive Menkyo Kaiden, or “complete transmission,” directly from Takeda.

As a student of Hisa, Ohgami became part of this important lineage and later worked to introduce and spread Daito-ryu beyond Japan.
