About the author:
Born in 1948 as the eldest son of five siblings, Hatsuo Royama entered the Oyama Dojo in the fall of his first year of high school. In 1973 he won the "5th All Japan Karatedo Championships". In 1980, he opened a branch dojo in Saitama prefecture and is the branch manager. Since 1990 he has been Vice-Chair of the National Branch Chiefs' Meeting. After the death of President Mas Oyama (April 26, 1994), he was Chief Shihan, Chief Advisor, and General Manager of East Asia and the former Soviet Union.
