Yukiyoshi Sagawa (1902–1998) was a highly influential Japanese martial artist known for his exceptional skill in Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu, a traditional Japanese martial art that emphasizes joint locks, throws, and the subtle use of "aiki" (harmonizing energy). He was a direct student of Sokaku Takeda, the legendary founder of Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu. Despite his reclusive nature and limited teaching, Sagawa was widely regarded as one of the most advanced practitioners of this art, praised for his unparalleled understanding and mastery of aiki techniques.
Sagawa's legacy is partly preserved through his writings and the teachings of his students. He emphasized rigorous training, self-discipline, and the pursuit of the deeper principles of martial arts beyond mere physical techniques. His profound influence on modern aiki-based martial arts makes him a revered figure in traditional martial arts circles.
