Seoi-Nage (Judo Masterclass Series) Book by Hidetoshi Nakanishi

Everyone who does judo has some experience of seoi-nage.

It is the throw which, in one form or another, is taught to beginners at a relatively early stage. Yet its effectiveness is such that it is the highest scoring technique in international competitions for men and women. There have been many great champions who relied on seoi-nage for most of their career - and made it work even when they were known to be shoulder throw specialists.

Now, for the first time, two experts on seoi-nage pool their experience and their knowledge to demonstrate the throw and its numerous variations.

Hidetoshi Nakanishi became world champion at u71k in 1983 and now teaches at one of Japan's top judo centres, Tokai University. A specialist in ippon seoi-nage, he assumes overall responsibility for the book. Having travelled widely abroad, he bring his experience of judo in Japan and the west to this comprehensive exposition of seoi-nage. Nakanishi himself demonstrates the ippon-seoi-nage section.

Morote-seoi-nage is demonstrated by Yoshiharu Minami, world champion at u61k in 1973 and 1975. It is clearly evident in Miami's demonstration photographs how skill and style are combined. This is further corroborated by superb contest shots from Minami's distinguished competition career.

SEOI-NAGE is an ambitious project: it is the largest single study of

seoi-nage ever undertaken. There are chapters on the history of seoi-nage and the competitive life of both Nakanishi and Minami; chapters on basic and advanced techniques, combinations, defences and counters. There are numerous superb competition shots.

SEOI-NAGE is unlikely to be challenged as the primary study book on seoi-nage for decades to come.
