Kanku Dai Karate Master Class DVD by Hirokazu Kanazawa (English)
KANKU-DAI is a SHOTOKAN Kata (dynamic form) performed here by MASTER HIROKAZU KANAZAWA, one of the world's foremost teachers and Chief Instructor of SHOTOKAN KARATE INTERNATIONAL. His unique understanding of all mind-body-spirit coordination elevates him above most "teachers".
This video production enables both serious student and teacher to fully understand the techniques and their application. It also provides a tremendous opportunity to practice with this world-famous teacher in your own home.
This video is in 4 parts:
INTRODUCTION - Kanku-Daï's historical origin is explained in detail beginning with Master Itosu in Okinawa who converted the original Ku Shanku kata to Kanku-Dai and the five Heian katas.
KATA DETAIL - When performing Kanku-Dai in the dojo it is taught in its physical state with instruction on technique and form using the instructors experience of each movement. The names of these movements are impossible to learn whilst being performed physically, therefore the Japanese terms can be learnt whilst viewing this section on a video screen when available.
KATA DYNAMIC - Kanku-Dai has both aspects of breathing and power for each movement that can only be understood by applying those aspects using screen symbols that change dynamically with each movement as the kata unfolds.
KATA APPLICATION - Kanku-Dai's defense from the assailant's attacks are shown in real time and described with Japanese kanji and narration in slow motion, enhancing the meaning of each movement and improving both teacher and student's understanding of the applications.
