Gracie Fundamentals is the ideal starting point for anyone beginning their journey in Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Designed specifically for adults with little or no prior experience, this program teaches the 36 core techniques that form the foundation of the Gracie self-defense system in a safe, structured, and cooperative training environment. Each one-hour lesson covers one standing self-defense technique and one ground technique, allowing students to build confidence and practical skills through progressive instruction. Because safety is our highest priority, there is no competitive sparring in this program, making it accessible to students of all ages, fitness levels, and athletic backgrounds.

While Gracie Jiu-Jitsu encompasses more than 600 techniques, decades of research and analysis of real-world confrontations by members of the Gracie family have shown that just 36 techniques account for the vast majority of successful self-defense situations. These essential techniques form the core of the Gracie Fundamentals curriculum, providing students with a practical and highly effective foundation before progressing to more advanced material.

You can begin the program at any time, with absolutely no previous martial arts experience. Classes are taught by certified Gracie Concepts® instructors and partner schools committed to providing a positive, supportive learning experience where every student can develop at their own pace. Upon successfully completing the Gracie Fundamentals curriculum and demonstrating proficiency in its techniques, students earn their Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belt, marking their readiness to continue their journey in the Gracie Advanced program.
