Known not only for his prowess but also as a renowned scholar who collected numerous materials, he invested his personal fortune in recording many films of his master. Utilizing preserved recordings, photographs, and films, this series aims to illuminate Morihei Ueshiba's martial arts.

  • Morihei Ueshiba (Born December 14, 1883, in Wakayama Prefecture): Founder of Aikido. Originating Aikido based on Daito-ryu Aiki-jujutsu learned from Sokaku Takeda, he established Aikido as a gem of Japanese martial arts. Renowned as an exceptional martial artist, his teachings continue to inspire numerous anecdotes, guiding disciples across various fields. He propagated Aikido not only in Japan but also worldwide until his passing on April 26, 1969.

  • Sadateru Arikawa (Born January 14, 1930, in Tokyo): Since childhood, he showed interest in martial arts, learning Matsudaikan karate from Yoshitane and Yoshitaka Funakoshi. He joined the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in 1947 and trained diligently as Morihei Ueshiba's direct disciple. Appointed as the dojo's chief instructor in 1959, he achieved the 8th dan in Aikido in 1970. Amidst the post-war turmoil, he accumulated extensive combat experience, earning the nickname "Killer Arikawa" for his rigorous training and outstanding skills, resonating globally. As a scholar who collected vast archival materials, including photographs and films of Morihei Ueshiba, he dedicated his personal finances to preserve these resources. A pivotal figure in the Aikikai, he contributed significantly to the promotion and advancement of Aikido. Awarded the 9th dan in 1994, he passed away on October 11, 2003.
