Hidy Ochiai is a seventh-dan head of Washin-ryu karate in the United States, Canada, and Europe. He also holds a black belt in judo and an instructor's certificate in kendo. He has won numerous tournaments and championships and runs one of the largest and most highly rated karate schools in the world in Vestal, New York. Hidy Ochiai was inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame in 1979 as Instructor of the Year; and again, in 1980 as Man of the Year-one of the fewer than ten people in the world to have received this double honor.
