Located beneath the Katori Grand Shrine, boasting a history spanning over 600 years, this venerable school represents the origin of Japanese martial arts. It has produced numerous skilled swordsmen and strategists such as Kamizumi Ise no Kami, Tsukahara Bokuden, Morooka Ikkanzei, Matsumoto Bizen no Kami, and many others, whose prowess is beyond measure.

Within its long and elegant series of movements, incorporating numerous offensive and defensive techniques, lies the essence of mastering decisive techniques. Here lies the source of Japanese martial arts!

This production is more than just a record video showcasing forms and techniques of the school. It delves into the life of Sugino Yoshio, the head of Yuishinkan Dojo, who lived through the turbulent eras of Meiji, Showa, and Heisei, exploring the essence of perfected techniques.

Instructor & Supervisor: Sugino Yoshio

Born in Chiba Prefecture in 1904. Entered Keio Commercial High School in 1918. Studied Kendo under Nakayama Hakudo and Judo under Iizuka Kunisaburo. Established a dojo in Kawasaki in 1927 and later learned Katori Shinto-ryu from Shina Ichizo and Aikido (Busen Aiki) from Ueshiba Morihei under the direction of Jigoro Kano. Joined the Kodokan Budo Promotion Association in 1935, performed demonstrations nationwide, and published "Tenmashinshu Katori Shinto-ryu Budo Kyohan" in 1941. Awarded the title of Kobudo Hanshi by Dai Nippon Butokukai in 1966 and received a 10th dan in Kobudo from the International Martial Arts Institute in 1982. Provided martial arts guidance for films like Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai" and "Yojimbo," as well as for television and Kabuki. Passed away in 1998.
