Video Instructional Guide for Learning Shinkage-ryu Heiho

Shinkage-ryu, founded by the sword saint Kamiizumi Ise-no-Kami Nobutsuna during the Sengoku period, is considered a representative school of Japanese martial arts that significantly influenced many subsequent styles. This instructional series is designed to teach and properly master the fundamental techniques of Shinkage-ryu. It is packaged as a set of two volumes for value.

Introduction: Kamiizumi Ise-no-Kami Nobutsuna, who also studied Nen-ryu, Katori Shinto-ryu, and Yagyu Shinkage-ryu, particularly extracted the principles of "marobashi" from Shinkage-ryu, establishing the foundation of Shinkage-ryu. His successor, Yagyu Sekishusai Muneyoshi, passed on the tradition to his son Yagyu Tajima-no-Kami Munenori, who became the martial arts instructor for the Tokugawa shogunate family, thereby enhancing Shinkage-ryu's reputation as the martial arts of the Tokugawa clan.

Philosophy and Techniques: The sword of Shinkage-ryu emphasizes the unity of offense and defense through "mukei" (無形), where stance is abandoned in favor of integrated techniques. It employs the concept of the "katsunin-to" (life-giving sword), using opponent's movements to gain victory, reflecting the skill of "winning without moving."

Modern Legacy: Established in 1969 by Watanabe Tadashige, inheritor of the 22nd generation of Shinkage-ryu Heiho, the Shinkage-ryu Heiho Tenshukai actively promotes the embodiment of "marobashi" principles and the propagation of Shinkage-ryu's grand traditions.
