The Enigmatic Martial Art of the Ryukyu Royal Family, Solely Inherited by Seikichi Uehara

Amidst the historical independence of the Ryukyu Kingdom, situated between mainland Japan and China, the Uehara family of the Hombu lineage has safeguarded a martial art known as "Udunti," or "Gentleman's Hand." This art, shrouded not only in its techniques but also in secrecy, has been passed down through generations within the Hombu family, distinct from both karate and ancient mainland Japanese martial arts.

Utilizing primarily thrusts and kicks, Udunti incorporates unique Okinawan weapons such as Sai, Nunchaku, and Toofa, alongside traditional blades like swords, spears, and long swords, as well as everyday items like bamboo brooms and smoking pipes, transforming them into weapons of combat. Designed for battlefields where allies and foes intermingle, Udunti ensures efficient dispatching of adversaries by targeting only vital areas above the neck, decisively concluding engagements with single strikes.

These techniques, honed through triumphs in warfare, have safeguarded royalty under any circumstance, defining the secretive martial art of the Ryukyu Royal Family's Hombu Udunti.

Included Content:

  • Daily Training: Utilization of items such as sticks, paddles, Nunchaku, Toofa, Torisashi (staff), short staff, sickle, Shakujo (staff with rings), double-edged swords, Yama-to (mountain swords), long swords, spears, short swords, Sai, bamboo brooms, smoking pipes, swords, sharpening stones, Shaku-to (measuring sword), staffs, and handles.

Seikichi Uehara (Born March 24, 1904, in Koroku Village, Shimajiri District, Okinawa Prefecture)

At the age of 12 in July 1917, he began his apprenticeship under the 11th generation head of the Hombu family, Choyu Honbu. For the next decade, he dedicated himself to rigorous training. On December 24, 1926, he was bestowed with the esoteric martial secrets of the Ryukyu Royal Family. He succeeded as the 12th generation head. After relocating to the Philippines, he established a dojo in Davao, Mindanao, engaging in further training and exchanging knowledge with Chinese martial artists. He returned to Okinawa in March 1947 and founded a dojo in Ginowan City in November 1951. In 1970, determined to reveal the secret martial arts inherited from his master, he renamed it "Honbu Udunti," the technique of former Ryukyu King Majinashi. Until his passing on April 3, 2004, he continued to guide future generations.
