More Fighting Karate Book by Hideyuki Ashihara (Preowned)
More Fighting Karate is the advanced follow-up to Fighting Karate, expanding on Ashihara’s highly practical approach to real combat. Published in 1989 by Kodansha, this volume goes deeper into the sabaki method, refining the concepts of positioning, timing, and angling against an opponent.
While the first book introduces the fundamentals, this sequel focuses on applied fighting strategy, showing how to adapt techniques dynamically in live situations. Ashihara blends traditional karate with elements of boxing and full-contact fighting, creating a system built for effectiveness rather than formality.
The book is heavily illustrated with step-by-step photo sequences, guiding the reader through combinations, counters, and tactical movement. It is especially valuable for practitioners interested in full-contact karate, self-defense, and realistic sparring applications.

About the Author:
Hideyuki Ashihara (芦原 英幸, December 5, 1944 – April 24, 1995) was a famous Japanese martial artist and the founder of Ashihara Karate, a practical and dynamic style emphasizing strategy, circular movement, and real-world application. Born in Hiroshima, Japan, Ashihara began his martial arts journey with judo before transitioning to karate. He trained under Masutatsu Oyama in Kyokushin Karate, becoming one of its top practitioners.
In 1980, Ashihara founded his own system, Ashihara Kaikan, focusing on logical techniques, adaptability, and his innovative concept of sabaki—efficiently avoiding an opponent's attack while creating counteroffensive opportunities. Known as the “Sabaki no Ashihara,” his legacy endures through his books, teaching materials, and the Ashihara Karate organization, which continues to spread his philosophy worldwide.
Ashihara passed away in 1995 due to ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), leaving behind a profound impact on the martial arts world.
