Karate Empowered Book by Rick Brewer
The karate dojo opens up a new world to students entering the dojo. Karate skill sets are wonderfully scientific and powerful and have evolved for centuries. Whether we are young and strong or older and more experienced, the scientific applications of correctly practiced techniques are still one of the most effective means of empty-handed survival ever invented. Once learned, internalized, ingrained into mind and muscle memory, we always have them with us.
The mental skills we learn in conjunction with the physical are derived from cutting edge warrior studies from Japanese legends like Myamoto Musashi and his contemporaries, who lived by the sword for eons and who actually faced life and death quite objectively. Or like Shuri-te karate Master Matsumura “Bushi” Sokon. Matsumura served as head of security and bodyguard over fifty years for three Okinawan kings, and is responsible for names like Anko Asato, Anko Itosu, Gichin Funakoshi, and many others who became karate pioneers revered in Okinawan and Japanese karate lineages that thrive today worldwide. Our modern karate concepts and techniques were born of trial by fire and implementation, not theoretical notions. Those karate skills are a basis for positive mental and physical strengths, integrity, peace and harmony, justice, and for powerful, conscious, and sub-conscious directed karate actions. Karate Do empowers its students!
The codes of conduct in traditional karate are the guidelines on the road of our karate journey.
