• Kazuyuki Takayama (TAKAYAMA Kazuyuki)
  Born in 1940, Takayama is the sixth-generation descendant of a family of scabbard craftsmen. He grew up watching his father make scabbards, which influenced his career path. After graduating from Hosei University in 1962, he apprenticed under his father and honed his skills under the tutelage of Living National Treasure Matsuo Fujishiro for four years. He also studied lacquer techniques for three years with lacquer artist Shisen Sato. In 1997, Takayama created the "Kurozukuri Tachi Koshirae" for the Shoso-in Imperial Repository. In 2000, he restored over 50 sword mountings for the British Museum in London. Additionally, he has been involved in the restoration and reproduction of sword mountings discovered in the Fujinoki Tumulus in Nara Prefecture and for various significant shrines and temples across Japan. Takayama serves as the Executive Director of the Japan Sword Culture Promotion Association and President of the Society for the Preservation of Art Sword Fittings Techniques.
