5" Aluminum Yawara for Self Defense
The yawara is a small Japanese weapon used in various martial arts, typically made of wood and extending slightly from both ends of a person's fist. It likely originated from the tokkosho, a Buddhist symbolic object used by monks in feudal Japan. The yawara may have been developed by samurai skilled in tantojutsu, or it could have been used as a non-lethal alternative to a knife. Frank A. Matsuyama popularized an upgraded version for police in the 1940s. A modern variation is the kubotan, a plastic stick used for self-defense. While yawaras are not illegal in the U.S., carrying self-defense weapons is prohibited in the UK.
