A Man Who Dedicated His Life to a Single Moment of Mastery!

This is the story of a master of Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu who lived through the turbulent times from the late Edo period to the Showa era, filled with battles and a life of wandering.

The essence of martial arts lies in Aiki. This is the lifelong pursuit of perfection by Takeda Sokaku, born the son of a Shinto priest in Aizu at the end of the Edo period. After the Meiji Restoration, he learned the martial art of Daito Ryu from Saigo Tanomo, a senior retainer of the Aizu clan. In his youth, Sokaku traveled across Japan on a journey of musha shugyo (warrior's pilgrimage), but during this time, he heard the news that Saigo Takamori of Kagoshima had raised an army. Determined to join Saigo's forces, Sokaku embarked on a journey that would ultimately lead him to become the reviver of Daito Ryu Jujutsu and a master of Aiki. This masterpiece historical novel depicts the intense battles and wandering life of this martial artist.
