The Essence of Kuniyoshi, Bizen Tradition Forging

This production captures in high-definition the forging techniques of "Kobuse" by Kuniyoshi Yoshihara (birth name Shoji Yoshihara), a pioneering figure in contemporary Bizen tradition Japanese sword crafting. The documentary includes detailed interviews with Kuniyoshi himself.

Kuniyoshi Yoshihara hails from a lineage of swordsmiths, with his father, brother, and nephew also being practitioners in the craft. He embarked on his journey as a swordsmith at the age of 18, honing his skills through rigorous training. In Heisei 20 (2008), he was designated an Intangible Cultural Property of Tokyo and currently serves as an advisor to the All Japan Swordsmiths Association.

Note: This work is a public release version of the DVD "Integrated Sword Forging: Swordsmith Kuniyoshi Yoshihara," originally available for sale by TV Setouchi Create. The footage included is identical to that of "Integrated Sword Forging: Swordsmith Kuniyoshi Yoshihara."
