Road to World Champion – The Path to Becoming World Champion In November 2011, the memorable 10th World Championship was held by New Kyokushin. Intensive training camps for the Japanese representative fighters, aiming not to lose as the homeland of Karate, were conducted under Representative Midori in Fukuoka Dojo. Also captured were training sessions on Amami Oshima, Midori's roots. This documentary follows the energetic activities toward conquering the world championship. Additionally, it covers the victory at the 5th World Championship, where Midori became the first world champion as a lightweight player, amidst the strong foreign contenders. It includes an exclusive interview where Midori himself looks back on the path of his battles.

Please Note: The footage of the 5th World Championship included in this DVD was compiled based on the TV Tokyo broadcast from 1991, and Midori Kenji's New Kyokushin Practical Techniques were structured using footage aired on J-SPORTS in 2003.

Cast:

Kenji Midori Born on April 18, 1962, in Amami Oshima, Kagoshima Prefecture. Moved to Tokyo in 1978 and joined the International Karate Organization Kyokushinkaikan. Active as a lightweight player, winning the 2nd, 4th, and 7th All Japan Weight Tournament Lightweight Championships. Despite his 165 cm, 70 kg physique, he challenged the open-weight division at the All Japan Championships in 1990 and became the runner-up. Represented Japan at the 5th World Championship in 1991, amidst many formidable international competitors, he triumphed after a grueling three-day battle, becoming the unprecedented open-weight champion as a lightweight player. Retired after the 5th World Championship. Currently instructs juniors at Tokyo Honbu Dojo, Fukuoka, and Amami Oshima. Appointed as Representative Director of the NPO International Karate Organization in 2000. Became President of the International Karate Organization (IKO) in 2001. In 2003, restructured the organization under the name NPO International Karate Organization New Kyokushin. As of 2011, oversees New Kyokushin in 79 countries worldwide, emphasizing social contributions such as bone marrow bank charities and blood donations.
