About the Author: 

Shunya Nagano is a martial arts researcher, instructor, and writer. Born in 1963 in Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture, he pursued studies in environmental chemistry at Okayama University of Science before leaving to focus on martial arts. From his middle school years onward, Nagano explored and practiced various martial arts and mind-body development techniques, both domestic and international.

In the autumn of 1999, he established the Yuushin-ryu Martial Arts and Wellness Method, synthesizing his research findings into a cohesive system. Based in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, Nagano teaches martial arts, self-defense, and wellness practices, offering workshops, one-off courses, and regional activities, primarily around the Tokyo metropolitan area. He also provides consulting on martial arts authenticity for authors.

A passionate collector of Japanese swords, particularly those by the famed smith Minamoto Kiyomaro, Nagano enjoys crafting sword components such as hilts and scabbards. His other interests include action and special effects films, dance, and independent film production.
