Includes photographs of 11 techniques of Enmei-ryu, the "victory sword" pursued by the young Musashi.

Musashi lived in the free and open spirit of the Azuchi-Momoyama era. His techniques were based on a theory of the body that was innate to the Japanese, which was incompatible with the Confucianism of the Edo period and the physical education of the Meiji period.

At the age of 24, Musashi won a fight against the Yoshioka clan, and began to call himself Enmei-ryu. He continued to do so until he moved to Kumamoto near the end of his life, when he called himself Nito Ichi-ryu and Niten Ichi-ryu. He is said to have taught Enmei-ryu to more than 1,000 disciples during his three-year stay in Nagoya when he was around 50 years old, and the techniques that were passed down are still being practiced at the Shunpu-kan dojo today.

This exhibition unravels Musashi's "Hyodokyo" and "Hyohō Thirty-five Articles" (The Mirror of Heido) and "Hyohō Thirty-five Articles" (The Thirty-five Articles of Heihō) by Musashi, who can be said to be the first person in Japan to start thinking from the body, and will also reveal the techniques of Enmei-ryu for the first time.
