Kodokan Judo was founded in 1882 by Master Jigoro Kano.
Thanks to the appeal of judo and the efforts of Shihan Kano and his predecessors, it became widely popular internationally throughout the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods. As judo spread and became loved around the world, calls arose for a "World Judo Championships," and finally, in 1956, the memorable first World Judo Championships was held in Tokyo. Half a century has passed since then, and judo continues to fascinate and develop people all over the world, and as of 2010, the number of countries and regions that are members of the International Judo Federation (IJF) has reached 200.
This DVD is a compilation of precious footage from the first tournament to the 27th Tokyo tournament this year. It is both a fascinating piece of footage and a valuable record.
We hope that you will watch this DVD and rediscover the greatness of judo and enjoy it to the fullest.
