About the instructor:

Yoroku Okuda Born in 1941 in Kyoto Prefecture. Started judo in middle school and continued through Heian High School and Tenri University. Standing at 170cm and weighing 70kg, he faced challenges due to his physique. However, with tremendous fighting spirit and perseverance in ground techniques, he excelled and became a key player during his university years. In the 1964 All Japan Championships, he defeated Katsutoshi Okano, who later won a gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics middleweight category, advancing to the quarterfinals. Despite facing much larger opponents, Okuda's ground techniques earned him the nickname "Okuda of Chokes." After graduating from Tenri University in 1963, he taught at Fukuoka's prestigious Shuuyo-kan High School until retiring in March 2000. Currently, he serves as the judo coach at Kyushu University.
