Tokyo Genbukan - Go no Gendachi: Okuden Battoujutsu

Learn the essence from the master. Achieve mastery with ease. Innovative swordsmanship born from the legendary swordsman Chiba Shusaku.

During the late Edo period, Chiba Shusaku, renowned for his skill surpassing even demons, distilled the essence of traditionally secretive sword techniques into practical, straightforward movements, creating a highly effective and rational style of swordsmanship. This style became known as Hokushin Itto-ryu.

Producing talents such as Yamakawa Kenjiro and Sakamoto Ryoma, Chiba Shusaku's school boasted over 3,600 disciples. With its clear and practical approach to swordsmanship, it dominated the end of the Edo period.

This production features the Tokyo Genbukan's 5th-generation headmaster, Shigejiro Konishi, and his disciples demonstrating the secretive techniques of battoujutsu (drawing sword techniques) and kumitachi (paired sword exercises), faithfully preserving the traditions since the founder, Chiba Shusaku.
