Ryuchi Matsuda was a martial artist who first introduced Bajiquan and Chen-style Taijiquan to Japan, and popularized Chinese martial arts to the general public through his work as the original author of the manga "Kenji," the martial arts supervisor for "Otoko-gumi," and the choreographer for "Kung Fu Lady."
The author, Eiji Yamada, became a disciple of Ryuchi Matsuda and founded the first Chinese martial arts research group at Waseda University.
He also served as the editor of the magazine "U-Shu" and as the editor-in-chief of "Full Contact KARATE," "Kakuto K Magazine," and "BUDO-RA."
To verify the secret techniques he learned from Matsuda, he left Matsuda's tutelage and challenged himself in karate and Muay Thai. He then established the Kengobo dojo, passing on Matsuda's martial arts and enabling his disciples to defeat Muay Thai fighters.
The book vividly conveys Matsuda's personality and teaching methods from the perspective of someone who was close to him.
It also introduces Matsuda's Bajiquan from the basics to advanced techniques for the first time. It reveals for the first time secret techniques such as the basic Chong Chui, Xiao Bajiquan, Bajiquan Lianhuan, sparring, secret oral traditions, and Liu Yunqiao's Meng Hu Ying Pa Shan.
The secret techniques of Bajiquan, passed down from Li Shuwen to Liu Yunqiao and then to Ryuchi Matsuda, are explained in an easy-to-understand manner for everyone.
The book also includes notes on Matsuda's words about various martial arts and martial artists, as well as his teaching methods.
It is a valuable collection of historical testimonies that allows readers to touch upon the profound depths of Chinese martial arts.
