From the Kinki, Chugoku, and Shikoku Regional Branches of the All Japan Swordsmiths Association:

In the renowned area of Nagafune, known for its masterpieces, we undertook the creation and documented the process of crafting a single-mouth sword in the ancient Bizen tradition. This video captures the entire process of traditional forging.

The Japanese sword, crafted over millennia, originates from functional beauty and has evolved into a form of art and craftsmanship. Its refined beauty embodies the noble and dignified spirit of warriors and the clear-heartedness inherent in Japanese culture.

While museums and art galleries offer opportunities to view completed swords, there have been few chances for modern swordsmiths like us to showcase the inherited techniques passed down from our predecessors. We have taken the initiative to document the entire process—from the initial tamahagane to the completion of the sword—and present it in this video format. Our goal is to share this with as many people as possible, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the skill and beauty involved.

Through this video, we hope to contribute to the preservation and continuation of traditional Japanese sword-making techniques. We sincerely request your esteemed viewing and support.

January, Heisei 16 (2004) President, All Japan Swordsmiths Association Sadatoshi Tsukiyama
