Seiichi Sugano Sensei, 8th dan instructor at the New York Aikikai, began his study of Aikido in 1959 at Hombu dojo when he was 20 years old.
He is a direct student of the founder, Morihei Ueshiba, commonly known as O Sensei. In 1965, Sugano Sensei became the representative of Hombu (Aikido World Headquarters) in Australia. Today, Sugano Sense teaches extensively in Australia, Europe, and throughout the United States.
In March of 2003, Sugano Sensei's left foot was amputated due to a life-threatening infection. On June 28th, just 32 days after receiving his prosthetic leg, he taught his first post-surgery seminar, in Woodstock, New York.
This film contains selections from the inspiring weekend as well as footage from previous seminars. Sense shares his knowledge and first-hand experience on subjects such as: training with O Sensei, ukemi, bowing, the essence of training, bokken technique, the history of Aikido, and more.
